Special Moments

I spent a few special moments with a stranger today
Doing ordinary things in an ordinary way
At the pet food aisle
Where we stopped and chatted for a while.
He fondly spoke of the song of the bird
That for many years he had never heard.
He spoke of his love for the family pet
That carries the mail to his bedfast wife...
The love of his life.
He talked of his sons with greatest pride
Their love for their parents could not be denied.
He mentioned their Christmas wish had been
That God would relieve her constant pain
And restore their mother to health again.
"But what about you?" I inquired
He spoke of God's goodness throughout the years
It was all I could do to hold back the tears.
A diabetic he had been
But today, his greatest fear
Was now melanoma, and not being here
To care for his invalid wife...
The love of his life.
I quickly asked what I could do
His answer came swiftly...
"Please pray for me as I will for you."
Yes, I saw the Christ on the road today
Doing ordinary things
In an ordinary way.
